This policy explains how refunds and cancellations work for services provided by The Coder Trick. We're a development agency, not a retail store, so this policy covers project engagements rather than product returns. Specific payment and cancellation terms in your signed proposal or service agreement take precedence over this general policy.
Free E-commerce Audit
Our free e-commerce audit carries no charge, so no refund applies. It's offered as a no-obligation review to help you understand your store's current state.
Quick version: deposits cover work already scoped and scheduled, so they're generally non-refundable once work begins. Undelivered, unstarted work is refundable. Hours already worked on an hourly engagement are billed and non-refundable; unused pre-paid hours can be refunded.
Project-Based Engagements
For fixed-scope projects (such as a new store build, migration or custom development project):
- An upfront deposit is typically required before work begins, as specified in your proposal.
- Once a milestone's work has started, the deposit or payment tied to that milestone is non-refundable, since it covers time and resources already committed.
- If you cancel before a paid milestone's work has started, any payment made specifically for that unstarted milestone is refundable, minus any costs we've already incurred on your behalf (such as third-party licenses or app subscriptions purchased for the project).
Hourly & Dedicated Developer Engagements
For hourly work or dedicated developer arrangements:
- You're billed for hours actually worked; these hours are non-refundable once delivered.
- Unused, pre-paid hours or retainer balances are refundable on request, calculated based on hours not yet used.
Maintenance & Support Retainers
Ongoing maintenance and support retainers can be cancelled with notice as specified in your agreement (typically 30 days). Fees already paid for the current billing period are not refunded, but no further charges apply after the cancellation takes effect.
Non-Refundable Costs
Certain third-party costs paid on your behalf are non-refundable regardless of project status, including but not limited to domain registrations, hosting fees, app or plugin subscriptions, and paid advertising spend, since these are typically non-refundable from the third-party provider itself.
How to Request a Refund
To request a refund or discuss a cancellation, email info@thecodertrick.com with your project details and the reason for the request. We aim to review and respond within 5-7 business days. Approved refunds are returned using the original payment method where possible.
Disputes
If you're not satisfied with delivered work, contact us first so we can address the issue directly — most concerns can be resolved through revisions or clarification of scope before a refund becomes necessary.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect once posted on this page, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly.
